In 2013 the Proof report "Household Food Insecurity" brought new levels of information and analysis into the public domain and the data for PEI was cause for concern.

While a similar breakdown is not available since the 2013 report we know that the percentage of food insecure households has increased from 15.4% to 16.7% and the severity of household food insecurity experienced has increased.
The Proof Report and subsequent talks by Dr. Valerie Tarasuk, the main author, to various groups on PEI helped to heighten awareness of food security issues.

- women headed single parent families suffer the highest rates on food insecurity on PEI.
